"This beguiling introduction to the Montessori classroom makes clear how the prepared environment encourages independence in young children, creating a sense of competence that is the only genuine basis of self-esteem."

This beguiling introduction to the Montessori classroom makes clear how the prepared environment encourages independence in young children, creating a sense of competence that is the only genuine basis of self-esteem.

Not only parents of children in Montessori schools and those who are considering enrolling their child in a Montessori school but all parents of young children can benefit from reading Charlotte Cushmanʼs book. It explains clearly and illustrates with telling anecdotes how children develop physically and intellectually and at what stages of life they are sensitive to different kinds of learning.

I recommend this book to anyone who has young children or who teaches them.

Author of Maria Montessori: A Biography, (New York: Putnam, 1976), perhaps the definitive biography of Dr. Montessori.
